Airport Turns Cinema: Open-Air Film Nights Light Up Bengaluru’s T2

Airports are usually about departures and arrivals, but on select evenings, Kempegowda International Airport’s Terminal 2 transforms into an open-air cinema, offering travellers and visitors an unexpected cultural pause. Hosted by Sunset Cinema Club in collaboration with Bengaluru International Airport Ltd (BIAL), the initiative brings curated film screenings to the T2 arrival forecourt.

Set under the open sky, the experience features bean bags, soft lighting and large screens, creating a relaxed atmosphere that contrasts with the usual airport rush. The idea, BIAL officials say, is rooted in the simple joy of watching films outdoors while fostering moments of calm and togetherness within a busy transit hub.

Sahil Kapoor, co-founder of Sunset Cinema Club, said the aim was to create “a small bubble of calm” without taking away from the essence of an airport. He described Bengaluru Airport as already functioning like a “micro city,” making it a natural extension to introduce storytelling, culture and entertainment into the space.

Terminal 2, designed to be intuitive and experience-led, reflects Bengaluru’s cultural ethos, where community experiences such as theatre, music and outdoor cinema are widely embraced. The open-air screenings align with this philosophy, allowing the airport to participate in the city’s cultural rhythm rather than exist separately from it.

With this initiative, Bengaluru Airport is reimagining itself not just as a place of transit, but as a destination that blends travel with culture, offering passengers and visitors a memorable experience before they move on.
