Mumbai: Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has reportedly received a ₹10 crore extortion threat through a WhatsApp voice message, triggering a swift police investigation. Authorities said the threatening audio clip was traced to a phone number registered in the United States.
According to sources, the unidentified caller allegedly demanded a hefty sum of money and warned of consequences if the demand was not met. The matter was immediately brought to the attention of law enforcement agencies, following which a formal complaint was lodged.
The Mumbai Police have initiated a detailed probe into the origin of the message, including digital forensics to track the sender and verify the authenticity of the threat. Officials are also coordinating with cybercrime units to determine whether the number was spoofed or routed through international servers.
Security around the actor has reportedly been reviewed as a precautionary measure. Investigators are examining possible links to previous extortion cases targeting film personalities.
Police officials have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the actor’s safety and to bring those responsible to justice.
