A section of central Bengaluru received a vibrant makeover thanks to a dedicated civic initiative led by young volunteers. The St John’s Church Road student clean-up drive was organized by students from Classes 8 to 12 of Beyond8, an alternative learning academy, in collaboration with the NGO The Ugly Indian. This St John’s Church Road student clean-up effort saw participants cleaning and painting footpaths and compound walls along the busy stretch near the Madras Engineering Group (MEG) campus.

The activity was part of the school’s community service program, Kartavyam, and aimed to improve walkability while instilling a sense of civic ownership. The St John’s Church Road student clean-up drew positive reactions from pedestrians and motorists, serving as a practical lesson in taking action rather than just voicing complaints about urban issues. Coordinators emphasized that such hands-on efforts are crucial for spreading the message of public cleanliness and collective responsibility across the city.
