Health authorities have issued an advisory urging citizens to remain vigilant following a reported rise in cases of hepatitis across several districts. Doctors say early detection and timely treatment are crucial to prevent complications related to liver damage.
Medical experts explain that hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver often caused by viral infections, may initially present with mild or flu-like symptoms. However, patients commonly report jaundice (yellowing of the eyes and skin), persistent fatigue, nausea, dark-coloured urine, loss of appetite, and pale stools.
“Many people ignore early warning signs such as unusual tiredness or digestive discomfort. By the time jaundice appears, the infection may have progressed,” said a senior physician from a government hospital. Authorities are advising individuals experiencing these symptoms to seek medical evaluation and undergo liver function tests if necessary.
Public health officials have also emphasized preventive measures, including maintaining proper hygiene, consuming safe drinking water, and ensuring vaccination where applicable. Awareness campaigns are being planned in schools and community centres to educate the public about transmission routes and the importance of early diagnosis.
Hospitals have been instructed to strengthen surveillance and promptly report new cases to contain potential outbreaks. Citizens are urged not to self-medicate and to consult qualified healthcare professionals if symptoms persist.
