New Delhi, November 30, 2025 Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India on December 4–5, 2025, for the 23rd Annual India–Russia Summit, following an official invitation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Kremlin confirmed that both leaders will hold comprehensive discussions to evaluate ongoing cooperation and set the direction for the next phase of their “special and privileged strategic partnership.”
Key Focus Areas of the Summit
The agenda is expected to include:
- Defence and military cooperation, including advanced air-defence systems
- Energy trade, particularly long-term oil and gas supply arrangements
- Civil nuclear collaboration
- Geopolitical and global security developments
- Expanding bilateral trade despite global sanctions and shifting markets
This visit is being seen as strategically significant for both nations especially since it will be Putin’s first trip to India since the Russia-Ukraine war began.
Why the Visit Matters
For Russia, the summit is an opportunity to reinforce key global partnerships as it faces Western diplomatic and economic pressure.
For India, it is a moment to demonstrate strategic autonomy, balancing:
- traditional ties with Moscow,
- growing partnerships with the US and Europe,
- and national interests in defence, energy, and foreign policy.
Given current global tensions, trade realignments, and intensifying geopolitical scrutiny, the outcomes of this summit will be watched closely across major world capitals.
