Punahchethana Foundation: A Home Built on Compassion, Courage & Purpose

How one couple turned empathy into a movement of dignity and hope.

A Story of Hearts That Chose Service

In a world where compassion often takes a back seat, the Punahchethana Foundation (PCF) stands tall as a beacon of dignity, courage, and second chances. What is today a growing movement began as the heartfelt dream of one woman — and the unwavering support of the man who stood beside her.

Deepa, a former professional from a leading multinational corporation, felt a deeper calling beyond the corporate corridors. She wanted to create a safe, nurturing space for elders, distressed women, and children struggling against economic and emotional hardships. Acting on this instinct, she made the bold choice to step away from the comfort of a secure career and step into service.

The turning point came when her husband, Mahesha Haniyur, not only encouraged her but initiated the foundation’s very first steps. His belief in her vision became the seed from which PCF blossomed.

“When I was thinking of starting an old age home, my husband initiated it and pushed me to do this. I am happy to serve the people,”
Deepa, Founder, Punahchethana Foundation

A Sanctuary for Women, Elders & Children

At its core, PCF provides temporary accommodation and livelihood support to women who find themselves away from their families due to difficult circumstances. The foundation ensures they regain stability, confidence, and most importantly — dignity.

Elders abandoned or neglected also find comfort and care under PCF’s shelter, where they are treated not as beneficiaries, but as cherished members of an extended family.

Nurturing Tomorrow Through Education

Punahchethana Foundation goes beyond providing shelter. It actively invests in the future by supporting children from economically constrained families—such as housemaids, taxi drivers, and daily-wage workers.

Their initiatives include:

  • Scholarships for deserving students

  • Eye check-ups for government school children

  • Free spectacles distribution

  • Spoken English and handwriting classes during summer vacations

Every effort reflects PCF’s mission: to uplift communities by building confidence, skills, and opportunities.

A Movement Rooted in Humanity

What began as the dream of Deepa and Mahesha has, over the years, transformed into a compassionate movement that continues to spread warmth across Bengaluru and beyond. Through their work, PCF proves that humanity thrives where hearts choose service over comfort — and that true change often starts with just two people deciding to make a difference.
