October 23, 2025

Editor and cinematographer Pratheek Shetty is still on cloud nine after bagging the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Editing for the critically acclaimed film 777 Charlie (2022). The film — a heartfelt and emotionally rich story that took nearly five years to complete — continues to earn admiration from audiences and critics alike. Pratheek’s precise and emotion-driven editing played a vital role in shaping its cinematic soul.

Expressing his joy, Pratheek shared,

“I’m super happy to have received the Karnataka State Film Award for Best Editing for 777 Charlie. Working with Kiranraj and Rakshit Shetty sir has always been a joy. I’m grateful to Paramvah Studios and director Kiranraj for their trust and creative freedom. It’s amazing to see that hard work recognised.”

Balancing between editing and cinematography, Pratheek says both crafts are deeply interconnected and constantly influence each other.

“One teaches me how to see emotion, and the other teaches me how to feel it,” he reflects.

Through his studio Dark Bird Films, Pratheek continues to explore innovative and experimental projects. His upcoming works include Marnami, 8, Dimsol, and Heggana Muddhu (in collaboration with Daali Pictures). He is also reuniting with Rakshit Shetty for Richard Anthony and has contributed as second unit cinematographer for A.R. Murugadoss’s Tamil film Madharaasi, starring Sivakarthikeyan.

Known for blending visual rhythm with emotional precision, Pratheek Shetty stands today as one of Kannada cinema’s most versatile and evolving creative voices.
