The appointment of Prakash Raj as the Bengaluru International Film Festival ambassador marks a significant moment for the 17th edition of the prestigious event, scheduled from January 29 to February 6, 2026. The Karnataka government’s selection of the acclaimed multi-lingual actor and filmmaker underscores the festival’s commitment to combining cinematic excellence with impactful social themes, this year centered on ‘Women Empowerment’.

In his role as Bengaluru International Film Festival ambassador, Prakash Raj brings his considerable pan-Indian stature and reputation for championing meaningful cinema to the forefront. His recent tenure as chairman of the Kerala State Film Awards jury further solidifies his alignment with the festival’s curated, quality-driven vision. This appointment follows actor Kishore’s ambassadorship in the previous edition and is designed to significantly amplify the festival’s outreach and prestige on both national and international stages.

The 17th edition, inaugurated on the steps of the Vidhana Soudha, will showcase over 200 films from more than 60 countries. As the Bengaluru International Film Festival ambassador, Raj will help highlight special segments, including retrospectives like that of Polish master Andrzej Wajda, and screenings supported by international cultural institutes. Supported by a government grant of ₹7 crore, the festival, through its influential ambassador, aims to foster vital dialogue and cultural exchange, firmly establishing itself as a premier platform for inclusive and empowering global storytelling.
