Global telecom major Nokia has expressed keen interest in expanding its footprint in Karnataka by setting up a Global Capability Centre (GCC) along with additional research and development units, further reinforcing Bengaluru’s position as a leading global technology hub.
The proposal was discussed during recent interactions between Nokia’s senior leadership and Karnataka government officials, where the company highlighted the state’s strong talent pool, mature startup ecosystem and robust digital infrastructure as key factors influencing its expansion plans.
Officials indicated that the proposed GCC would focus on advanced areas such as telecommunications technology, software development, artificial intelligence and next-generation network solutions, creating high-skilled employment opportunities in the region. The expansion is also expected to strengthen collaboration between global firms and local innovation ecosystems.
Karnataka’s proactive investment policies and Bengaluru’s reputation as India’s “Silicon Valley” continue to attract major multinational corporations seeking to scale up engineering, design and research operations. Nokia’s interest adds to a growing list of foreign companies exploring GCCs in the state, reflecting sustained confidence in Bengaluru’s tech-driven economy.
The state government has assured full support to facilitate the proposed expansion, positioning Karnataka as a preferred destination for global technology investments.
