Gata Vibhava, starring SS dushyanth and Ashika Ranganath and directed by Suni, disappoints on almost every front—storytelling, emotional depth, humour, and overall coherence. What begins with the promise of freshness quickly unravels into a chaotic, patience-testing experience.
Confusing from the Start
The trailer hinted at something missing, and the full-length film confirms it. The first half is particularly disorienting, cluttered with spoof-like references to Hollywood films that neither entertain nor add meaning. The narrative feels scattered, lacking emotional stakes or a clear sense of purpose.
The lead characters fall in love without any convincing build-up, and their motivations remain murky throughout. Adunika is introduced as a painter and Purathana as the owner of a VFX studio, but these traits never meaningfully influence the plot, leaving the characters hollow and disconnected.
Execution Gone Wrong
Director Suni appears to have aimed for a quirky, offbeat comedy, but the execution falters. Forced humour and repetitive flashbacks drag the film down, while the uneven screenplay prevents any scene from truly landing. Even the music—usually a saving grace—fails to linger.
A Climax That Drains More Than It Delivers
By the time the film reaches its climax, the audience’s patience has already worn thin. What should have been a tight, clever conclusion ends up feeling as directionless as the rest of the narrative. For a filmmaker known for refreshing storytelling, Suni delivers a surprisingly empty cinematic experience this time.
Verdict
If you have a high tolerance for confusion and inconsistency, you can give Gata Vibhava a try. But for most viewers, this film unfortunately does not justify the 2-hour-10-minute runtime.
