BJP Bheema Memorial Programme Ambedkar injustice became the central message on Tuesday as Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka announced a statewide campaign from November 26 to December 6. The BJP plans to hold the “Bheema Memorial Programme” across Karnataka to highlight what it calls “injustices done to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by the Congress.”
Speaking to reporters after a preparatory meeting in Bengaluru, Ashoka said the purpose of the programme is to “inform the people about how the Congress wronged Dr. Ambedkar and to highlight the contributions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in preserving Babasaheb’s legacy.”
Ashoka also levelled serious allegations against the Congress-led Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), accusing it of large-scale corruption in the purchase of garbage-sweeping machines.
According to him, each machine costs around ₹2.5 crore, with an additional ₹5 lakh spent on maintenance and salaries.
“But the government has spent ₹618 crore. If the machines were purchased directly, the cost would have been only ₹308 crore. This is a clear case of looting,” he alleged.
He criticised the administration for failing to invest in basic waste-management infrastructure, saying the city continues to suffer from a shortage of garbage-collection vehicles.
“People are paying multiple taxes, and now the same public money is being looted,” he said.
Ashoka further targeted the government over alleged corruption in Jayanagar, claiming that “looting is happening in broad daylight” and adding that people’s money is no longer safe even in banks.
“It won’t be surprising if there is theft inside Vidhana Soudha. Even police officers are busy looting. Looting has become part of Brand Bengaluru,” he remarked.
Addressing internal political developments within the ruling Congress, Ashoka said Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar and other leaders may be visiting Delhi frequently, but there is “no question of Siddaramaiah stepping down.”
According to him, “The timing is not favourable for D.K. Shivakumar to push for leadership change.”
