Apple is accelerating its efforts to expand and diversify its supply chain within India. Following the successful shift of iPhone assembly to the country, the tech giant is now advancing plans for Apple India chip assembly, specifically exploring the packaging and testing of iPhone components locally, according to industry reports.
Apple is said to be in preliminary talks with select Indian semiconductor firms to support this Apple India chip assembly initiative. A key potential partner is CG Semi of the Murugappa Group, which has established a semiconductor assembly and testing (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Gujarat, with a focus on display-related chips.
Currently, Apple sources critical components like display panels and driver ICs from suppliers concentrated in South Korea, Taiwan, and China. To reduce this geographic dependency and mirror its successful iPhone assembly model with partners like Foxconn and Tata, Apple is now pushing for Apple India chip assembly and testing to be integrated into its local manufacturing ecosystem.
While discussions remain in early stages and must meet Apple’s stringent quality benchmarks, securing such a contract would represent a major milestone for CG Semi and provide a significant boost to India’s Semiconductor Mission. This move would firmly reinforce India’s strategic and growing role in Apple’s global manufacturing roadmap.
