₹4,000 Crore Epic: Namit Malhotra Says ‘Ramayana’ Is More Than Just a Film

Film producer Namit Malhotra has revealed that he has invested an unprecedented ₹4,000 crore into his ambitious cinematic adaptation of Ramayana, describing the project as a deeply personal and extraordinary journey rather than merely a commercial venture.

Speaking about the scale of the production, Malhotra said the film’s grandeur and visual ambition have already drawn widespread appreciation. He confirmed that the first part of the project is nearing completion, marking a significant milestone in what is being billed as one of the most expensive films ever mounted in Indian cinema.

Recalling the early days of the project, the producer noted that the scale was so vast that even the lead actor had questioned whether such a vision could realistically be funded. Despite the enormity of the investment, Malhotra emphasized that the film has been completed without borrowing any funds.

He admitted that the financial execution of the project feels almost surreal. “I can’t even explain how the finances came together,” he said, suggesting that forces beyond conventional planning seemed to guide the process.

While industry observers continue to speculate about the final budget, Malhotra maintained that he is not preoccupied with figures. His primary focus, he said, is delivering a cinematic experience without compromise in terms of scale, technology, or storytelling.

The film, envisioned as a grand retelling of the Indian epic, is expected to set new benchmarks in production design and visual effects, potentially redefining the scope of large-scale filmmaking in the country.
