KL Rahul is already a cricketer who has earned great fame and wealth. He is not playing in the ongoing T20 World Cup, and he could have used this break to travel abroad on vacation or spend peaceful time at home with his wife and daughter. Instead, he is playing for the Karnataka Ranji team and has been a key reason for Karnataka reaching the semifinals. He continues to represent the very team that nurtured his growth.
It is hard to imagine the effort required to play five days of Test cricket. Players must stay away from home for days, attend preparatory camps, participate in continuous meetings, maintain fitness through rigorous practice, eat hotel food, and sometimes even share rooms with teammates if there is a shortage. They sleep on unfamiliar hotel beds, missing the warmth of their own homes, remain away from their families, wake up early for practice, and follow strict diet routines. Because of such demands, many young players hesitate to pursue Test cricket today.
As a proud Kannadiga, KL Rahul’s commitment to the Karnataka team deserves appreciation. The remuneration for Ranji players is relatively low, yet Rahul continues to play. If he once again helps Karnataka become Ranji champions, it will add true meaning to his cricketing career. His outstanding performance was also a major reason behind Karnataka’s Ranji Trophy triumph in 2012–13. Kannadigas should recognize and celebrate this sense of dedication among their own.
