Metro Fare Hike of Up to 5% from February 9 to Impact Bengaluru Commuters

Commuters in the city are set to face a marginal increase in travel costs as the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) plans to raise Namma Metro fares by up to five per cent starting February 9. The revision, introduced under an automatic fare adjustment formula, is aimed at strengthening the financial sustainability of metro operations while continuing to support the system’s expansion and maintenance.

The proposed hike is expected to affect thousands of daily passengers who rely on the metro for affordable and efficient transportation across the city. Businesses and office-goers, particularly in major commercial corridors connected by the metro network, may also feel the impact of the revised ticket prices.

Despite the increase, officials maintain that the metro remains one of the most economical and reliable modes of public transport in Bengaluru. Authorities have assured commuters that the additional revenue will contribute to improved services, infrastructure upgrades, and the ongoing development of new metro lines.

The fare revision comes at a time when public transport usage is steadily rising, underscoring the metro’s crucial role in easing traffic congestion and supporting the city’s growing urban mobility needs.
