In a quiet yet powerful symbol of reform and reintegration, snack boxes prepared by inmates of Parappana Agrahara Central Prison were served during official Republic Day celebrations under the ‘Nav Sankalp’ rehabilitation initiative.
The initiative spotlighted the transformative role of vocational training within the prison system, demonstrating how structured skill development can restore dignity and self-reliance among inmates. Prepared as part of in-prison training programmes, the snack boxes reflected not just culinary skill but a broader commitment to meaningful reform beyond incarceration.
Officials noted that Nav Sankalp aims to equip inmates with employable skills, enabling smoother reintegration into society upon release. By linking rehabilitation efforts with a national celebration, the programme sent a strong message on inclusive growth, social responsibility, and the importance of second chances.
The Republic Day gesture was widely appreciated as a step towards humanising the prison system and reinforcing the idea that correction, not just punishment, lies at the heart of justice.
