Bengaluru: After a hiatus of more than two decades, double-decker buses have made a comeback on Bengaluru’s roads, reintroducing a touch of nostalgia to the city’s public transport network. The iconic buses, last seen in the late 1990s, are now operating on select routes as part of a heritage-style initiative aimed at promoting urban tourism.
Inspired by London’s famed double-decker fleet, the newly introduced services are designed to offer residents and visitors a unique way to experience the city’s landmarks. Transport officials said the initiative seeks to blend Bengaluru’s transport history with contemporary city life, while also adding variety to existing public transit options.
Officials noted that beyond meeting mobility needs, the double-decker services are expected to enhance the cultural experience of commuters and attract tourists interested in exploring the city from a different perspective. If the response is encouraging, authorities may consider expanding the service to additional routes in the future.
