New Skywalk Boosts Metro Access to Whitefield IT Hub

Bengaluru on Thursday inaugurated the ITPB Metro Skywalk, a major pedestrian infrastructure project aimed at improving last-mile connectivity in the bustling Whitefield IT corridor. The elevated walkway was opened on January 16, 2026, by Gauri Shankar Nagabhushanam, CEO of CapitaLand India Trust, along with senior officials of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL).

The project is the outcome of a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2023 between BMRCL and International Tech Park Limited (ITPL) to enhance safe and seamless access between metro stations and major employment hubs.

Stretching 320 feet in length and 24 feet in width, the skywalk is built using high-strength steel and concrete. It is equipped with ramps, elevators, LED lighting and eco-friendly materials, ensuring universal accessibility for all commuters. The structure directly connects Pattandur Agrahara Metro Station on the Purple Line with International Tech Park Bengaluru (ITPB) and Park Square Mall.

Officials said the skywalk will significantly benefit more than 55,000 professionals who commute daily to the Whitefield IT hub. By providing a secure, weather-protected passage, it eliminates the need for pedestrians to cross busy roads, reducing congestion and improving safety in the area.

BMRCL Director (Operations and Maintenance) Ravishankar J. said the initiative supports greater use of public transport and aligns with the city’s broader goals of sustainable urban mobility. The ITPB Metro Skywalk is expected to serve as a model for similar public-private infrastructure collaborations across Bengaluru.
