In a last-minute development, the nationwide theatrical premiere of Thalapathy Vijay’s highly anticipated film has been delayed. The Jana Nayagan release postponed announcement was made by the film’s production house, KVN Productions, just days before its scheduled January 9, 2026 debut, citing “unavoidable circumstances beyond our control.”
The Jana Nayagan release postponed decision stems directly from an ongoing certification impasse with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Madras High Court, where producers had sought intervention after the CBFC failed to issue a certificate for over a month, has reserved its order and directed the board to constitute a fresh committee to re-examine the film. This follows earlier CBFC suggestions for cuts and muted dialogues on December 19.
The Jana Nayagan release postponed status is a significant setback for fans and the industry, as the film is billed as Vijay’s final acting project before he transitions fully into politics. The production house has stated that a new release date will be announced at the earliest, pending resolution of the CBFC review and court proceedings.
