The Karnataka government has approved a significant ₹50 crore grant for the Vishwa Guru Basavanna Biodiversity Park Bengaluru, marking a crucial step in creating Bengaluru’s third major green lung after Lalbagh and Cubbon Park. This development of the Vishwa Guru Basavanna Biodiversity Park Bengaluru represents a major push toward strengthening urban ecology and addressing the city’s shrinking green cover.
The 153-acre park, to be developed at Madappanahalli over the next three years, will focus on restoring native vegetation, creating a bird sanctuary, and establishing nature education zones for children and the public. While the state’s initial contribution is ₹50 crore, the total project cost is estimated at around ₹750 crore, with substantial funding expected through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and public-private partnerships.
The Vishwa Guru Basavanna Biodiversity Park Bengaluru is designed to serve multiple environmental and social purposes: improving air quality, protecting local biodiversity, and creating a hub for environmental awareness. Once completed, this green space will play a key role in community engagement with nature while providing much-needed ecological balance in Bengaluru’s rapidly expanding urban landscape.
