In a significant crackdown on film piracy, a Jaggesh anti-piracy bust has resulted in a suspect being handed over to the authorities. The Jaggesh anti-piracy bust was announced by the actor-politician during an Instagram Live, where he revealed that a person involved in leaking films online has been arrested, with plans to present the accused to the media on Wednesday.
Jaggesh emphasized the severe damage piracy causes, comparing it to crimes like murder or robbery. “Producers take loans and hundreds work tirelessly, only for pirates to strike within minutes of release. We cannot sit back,” he stated, urging the entire film industry to unite against the menace.
The operation was aided by crucial intelligence from producer Ravikiran, an expert in tracking online piracy. Acting on the tip, Jaggesh alerted the Nandini Layout police, who swiftly arrested an engineering student found with ₹1.5 lakh in his bank account. The police are currently interrogating the suspect, with more details expected soon.
Jaggesh, who has previously raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha, warned that several such networks operate with hundreds of individuals and vowed to bring them all to justice. Ravikiran added that legal action would extend to anyone recording, uploading, downloading, or even sharing pirated links.
This bust follows recent anti-piracy efforts by stars like Sudeep and the teams behind films like Devil and Mark, highlighting an industry-wide push to protect Kannada cinema from online leaks that drive audiences away from theatres.
