Ranveer Singh Kantara Apology: Actor Addresses IFFI Mimicry Controversy

Ranveer Singh's Instagram apology post for Kantara controversy

The Ranveer Singh Kantara apology has been issued by the actor following significant backlash for his mimicry of a scene from Kantara Chapter 1 at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. His on-stage act, where he referred to the deity Chaundi as a “female ghost,” drew widespread criticism for cultural insensitivity.

In a statement posted on his Instagram, the Ranveer Singh Kantara apology clarified his intent: “My intention was to highlight Rishabh’s incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene… I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”

The controversy emerged just ahead of the release of his upcoming film Dhurandhar, a spy action thriller directed by Aditya Dhar, where Ranveer plays an undercover R&AW agent. Co-starring Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, R. Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal, the film is set to release on December 5, 2025. The Ranveer Singh Kantara apology aims to mend sentiments as he promotes his ambitious new project.
