Kannada Film Artists Association Election Set for 2026 After Seven-Year Gap

Kannada Film Artists Association election 2026 announcement event

The Kannada Film Artists Association election is finally set to take place next year, marking the first major leadership vote in seven years. Preparations are underway for polling in the second week of January 2026, following Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s suggestion after a delegation from the association sought financial support for development activities.

This will be the first election since the tenure that began in 2008, when Ambareesh was elected President, with Sarojadevi as Honorary President, Rockline Venkatesh as Secretary, Upendra as Joint Secretary, Doddanna as Treasurer, and actors Ramesh Aravind, Ganesh, Tara, and Anu Prabhakar serving as executive members.

Leadership Vacuum Since Ambareesh’s Passing

After Ambareesh’s death, the association has been primarily managed by Rockline Venkatesh and Doddanna, with no new memberships issued since 2018. The absence of elections and fresh memberships has contributed to long-standing administrative stagnation.

With elections returning, a major reshuffle in leadership is expected. Sources indicate that Rockline Venkatesh is likely to contest for the President’s post. However, senior Sandalwood icons Shivrajkumar, Jaggesh, and Ravichandran have not yet revealed their stance or whether they intend to contest.

Historical Context

The Kannada Film Artists’ Association was originally founded in 1979 under the leadership of Dr. Rajkumar, symbolising unity and welfare within the film fraternity.

During previous tenures, the association conducted several religious ceremonies — including Subrahmanya Sarpa Shanti, Ganapati Homa, and Mrityunjaya Homa — seeking prosperity and well-being for the Kannada film industry at a time of rapid change.

What Lies Ahead

With new elections approaching, the industry hopes for revitalised leadership, renewed memberships, and clearer administrative functioning to address long-pending issues faced by Kannada actors and technicians.
