Bengaluru: Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka launched a sharp attack on the state government, questioning the deteriorating civic conditions in the capital. “Is this the Bengaluru of robbers, of potholes, or of garbage piles?” he asked, criticising the administration for failing to address basic infrastructure issues.
Speaking to the media, Ashoka alleged that the government is preoccupied with power-sharing and has ignored urgent concerns such as pothole-ridden roads and unmanaged waste. “Across Karnataka, all we see are potholes, garbage heaps, zero development, and looting. Is this all you have achieved in two-and-a-half years?” he questioned.
A Scathing Indictment on Infrastructure
Stating that a responsible government would prioritize filling potholes and ensuring proper road asphalting, he accused the administration of making empty claims. “You keep saying funds have been released for months. If so, where has the money gone?” he asked.
Ashoka, who inspected the condition of a hospital road during a protest, criticised the poor state of infrastructure with biting sarcasm. “If someone travels on this road, they might end up delivering a baby on the way,” he said. He pointed out that nearly 400 potholes were found on a one-kilometre stretch of the road, highlighting the severity of the problem.
Demanding Accountability and Action
The opposition leader demanded immediate transparency regarding the utilization of funds allocated for city infrastructure. He challenged the government to provide accounts for the public money spent and to present a concrete plan to resolve the chronic issues of road quality and waste management.
With the monsoon season approaching, Ashoka warned that the situation would only worsen, leading to more accidents, health hazards, and immense public inconvenience. His strong critique signals a mounting political offensive against the ruling party over its governance record in the state’s capital city.
