Renukaswamy case Darshan blanket request became the centre of discussion during Wednesday’s hearing, after actor Darshan informed the court that he was not being given the additional blanket sent from home despite the severe cold conditions inside Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.
Darshan, who is an accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, appeared before the 57th CCH Court via video conference. During the hearing, co-accused Nagaraj told the court that even though an extra blanket had been provided by the family, jail officials had not issued it.
Darshan supported this statement, saying:
“It is extremely cold here. None of us are able to sleep at night. Please ensure we are given the extra blanket.”
The judge took strong exception to the situation and questioned the jail authorities:
“Why is this happening despite repeated instructions? Shouldn’t a blanket be provided in this weather?”
Following this, the court directed the prison officials at Parappana Agrahara to immediately issue the additional blanket to Darshan. The matter has now been adjourned to December 3 for the next hearing.
The Renukaswamy case Darshan blanket request has once again raised concerns about compliance, inmate welfare and the handling of court orders within the prison system.
